London & The Commuter Belt

London is the capital and largest city of England and the United Kingdom. It stands on the River Thames in south-east England at the head of a 50-mile (80 km) estuary down to the North Sea.

London is also referred to as the metropolis around this, historically split between the counties of Essex, Middlesex, Kent, Surrey and Hertfordshire, which today are commonly known as 'Greater London' or 'the commuter belt'.

With a GDP of over 801.66 billion in 2017, It is the biggest urban economy in Europe and one of the largest financial centres in the world. In 2019, London also saw the second highest number of ultra high-net-worth individuals in Europe after Paris. In 2020 London had the second-highest number of billionaires of any city in Europe after Moscow.

London's diversity of cultures mean that more than 300 languages are spoken. The mid-2021 population of Greater London was 9,425,622, more than three times as large as Manchester, the UK's second biggest urban agglomeration. London accounts for 13.4% of the UK population which is why it has attracted investment worldwide for decades.
